July 16, 2013

My jaw pain returned massively this afternoon. I have spent the time since trying to reduce it without noticeable results. Thankfully, I have a dental appointment at 9 o’clock tomorrow morning.

I missed taking new photographs of the kittens today. When I finally went back into the walk-in closet all three were huddled together beneath the hanging clothes. I decided not to awaken them with the flash from my camera.

I am beginning to miss not having a television set. In recent days I have been watching the BBC series Wallander on Netflix. Actually, at a cost of less than $9.00 a month, Netflix is much superior to Direct TV at over $100.00 per month. I do miss some cable programs, such as Chelsea Lately, baseball, and soccer.

In the last episode of Wallander that I watched, his father, who is suffering from Alzheimer’s disease, says to him: Find someone to sit with. You’re not strong enough to do it alone. Nobody is. Those words struck a note, if not a chord, within me.

I have now been living alone for about 16 years. I joke about being a hermit and perhaps I have become one. A gentleman hermit, I would like to think: a cat gentleman. A gentleman hermit living with cats. That’s me, I suppose.

Exhaustion, Warmth, and Blue Whales

Blue Whale and Calf

I awakened, as usual, at a bit after 3:00 a.m. and was able to return to sleep in my reclining chair a bit before 4:00. I awakened to a TV program about a blue whale and her calf. It was an astonishing program. What intrigued me the most was the close relationship between the mother and her child. A comment was made that this type of relationship is the norm for mammals. I began reflecting on all of the abusing and neglecting human mothers I encountered supervising child protective services. I wonder what went wrong with the parenting instinct of those mothers.

It is an unseasonable 67 F here in Louisville today. I wish I had the energy to go outside and enjoy it. But I don't am still feeling exhausted. The good news is that I don't feel nauseous today and the pains in my body a less than they have been the past week or so.

I am now intrigued by blue whales so much that I went shopping and added some stuff to my want list (as if I'll ever afford any of it):

I finally got the energy to go out into today's warmth. I had a grand time! Even a nice conversation with some folks at the mailboxes.

Of course, the exertions wore me out. Beck inside I spent an hour or so recouping my energy. While recovering my breath, I heard a huge crash. When I had the strength, I investigated what the kitty kids had knocked over this  time. Nothing broke. Just some boxes of stuff I plan to throw away.

Since the VA has replaced my reach extender, I spent time this evening picking up stuff that I couldn't without the extender. Of course, it was 10 minutes picking up followed by 10 minutes recouping my breath.

Now at 11:30 PM, I am ready to retire for the night.

Sunday, December 9, 2012

I don't understand why, no matter what time I go to sleep, I awaken around 3:00 a.m. I think that my biological clock is screwed up.

This morning I published a new, all KATZ graphics, Silly Sunday on Nick's Bytes.

Kitty Kid update:

Little Girl and Sugar found something of interest outside:

See the square treats on my desk? Alex picks through them to find another kind and leavest he square ones on my desk.

I still have a cold; I have felt worse today than yesterday.

My watching Green Bay defeat Detroit on Sunday Night Football was interrupted by a huge thunderstorm that interfered with my Direct-TV reception. I spent the downtime completing tomorrow's Too Bad It's Monday post for Nick's Bytes. I'll post it in 18 minutes (midnight). Here's a sample:

Day Ninty

I feel asleep while I was watching Thursday Night (NFL) Football and was not happy about it. Then  after Chelsea Lately, which I seldom miss watching, I wanted to sleep but couldn't until after 4:00 a.m. and slept until about 10:00 a.m.

When I walked out of my bedroom this morning, all three kitty kids were waiting for me and demanding breakfast, which I was hard pressed to serve them without tripping over the silly cats.

Later I finished writing and posting today's Friday Funnies.

It was not easy to complete because of Little Girl being all over me:

I ended the day watching the University of Louisville defeat the University of Cincinnati in a great overtime game.
