2014-06-06 Friday

Still feeling yucky, I awakened much later than usual this morning. Besides lots of nausea, my left leg has been quite painful and unusually weak all day.

I had lots to do, so along with my usual morning medications, I added an ibuprofen tablet for the pain and baking soda mixed into a glass of water for the nausea. Unfortunately, there is nothing I can take to deal with the leg weakness, except to be very careful how and where I walk.

First on my agenda (after feeding the Kitty Kids) was to complete two blog posts for Nick's Bytes that I've been creating over the past few days.  The first was my normal Friday Funnies post, which contains a lot more graphics than usual.

The second, celebrating the anniversary of the D-Day invasion of Europe in 1944, was, for me, a true work of love. On D-Day, my dad was fighting in Italy after having participated in the invasions of North Africa and Sicily. Rome had fallen the previous day and the German occupying armies were retreating northward. Even so, I heard stories about D-Day from some friends of my dad who had participated in the Normandy invasion on June 6th. Between their stories, history books that I have read, and films I have seen—especially The Longest Day—I have vivid pictures in my mind of the horrors of that day and the courage of the men who landed on those beaches. So this June 6th post was for me a work of love honoring tens of thousands of heroes.

Although my leg remained painful, I had to drive to the grocery for Kitty Kid wet food with gravies because on Monday I only purchased enough cans to last five days. The reason I don’t buy more is that I have such a difficulty bringing the groceries from my car into the apartment. That’s another reason I have so sorely missed having the VA supplied caregivers.

While in the grocery I had a rather unpleasant surprise. The woman who had borrowed my car and not returned (I have told the story on Facebook) came up behind me as I was about ready to check out. She talked as if we were “old friends”—which we are certainly not. She followed me out to my car and helped place the grocery bags into it. Then she left.

However, a few minutes later she again intercepted me after I had picked up my mail from the mailbox and was returning to my automobile. She got into my vehicle and rode with me to my apartment. Then—and I am thankful for this—she carried the groceries in for me. She stuck around, showed me the eviction notice she has received, and attempted to borrow money. Of course, having been burned several times by this woman, I refused to loan her anything. I felt quite relieved when she left.

I then spent quite a while napping and arresting my leg. I’ve spent most of this evening on the Internet, sharing my blogs and links to news stories primarily on Twitter. I have also spent some quality time with my three silly Kitty Kids:

  2. Thank you, Thomas. I'm publishing this journal again because I was attacked by a rather nasty troll on Facebook, whose first attack consisting of wishing President Obama would be assassinated while visiting the troops in Afghanistan. Then the attacks became more personal, so even though I blocked him and his wife, I have decided to share personal stuff here rather than Facebook. I sincerely appreciate your words and friendship.
